Who among us doesn’t want to be cool? Cool like Kate Bosworth and Ashley Olsen drinking hot coffee in L.A., cool like a dramatic Carine Roitfeld exit from her car service, cool like Abbey Lee with cake frosting white hair in Alex Wang. We of the fashion master mind are consistently chasing cool. We style junkies know coolness is not about the labels you can afford to wear, more importantly its not even all about dressing well.  It’s about looking like your style comes from a gene and not a store. It’s the fierce boots that has an uneven pattern of studs because your dog chewed a few off – but it looks intentional and amazing. Its the Victorian hem on that expensive vintage skirt that you’re wearing with a $12 Coldplay t shirt.  Tailoring cool to make it our own. Getting the ingredients just right to make our coolness delicious. As we all know, not enough cool will make you invisible; too much cool will make you ridiculous. Cool, like carbs is a good thing in moderation. Some women, the Rihannas and Chloe Sevignys of the world can get away with more cool carbs than others. The rest of us need to be keenly aware of our cool formula. So as we jump into what is sure to be an epic Spring, do you know your cool formula?

One of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen in pictures or in person. It’s almost unreal, her perfection is truly never ending.

In honor of Christophe’s bad ass, razor slashed, sex fueled, rocking and rolling, studded and sequined career at Balmain. Here are a few favorite moments through the years.

If you haven’t yet noticed, America loves a New York cinderella story. Instead of a scary house with a mean stepmother and step sisters, she comes from rural America. Instead of escaping to the ball, she escapes to New York and instead of (or in addition to) being rescued by Prince Charming, she is rescued by glamour. Holly Golightly set the mold and made it fun and enviable. Anne Welles (Valley of the Dolls) made it dangerous and raunchy. Carrie Bradshaw made it well…grand and unachievable.

The allure of the New York Cinderella makes us all feel a little more beautiful for being blessed to share our lives with this city. They are equal parts whimsical, liberated, glamorous, chic, brilliant, horny, comical and indomitable. They are a marriage of contradictions and crazy. An intimidatingly fearless view on fashion and a refreshing lack of concern for your opinion. The New York Cinderella is my ultimate Spring 2011 muse.

Lady Gaga…the Mother Monster herself announced via Twitter that she will be debuting as a Fashion and Art columnist for most awesomest American magazine V starting in the summer. The tweet reads 

“I begin next month as a Fashion+Art Columnist for @VMagazine. + I’ll be resurrecting “TRANSMISSION GAGAVISION” episodes starting next week!”

Gaga is also the subject of a collaborative contest with V called “Drawn This Way” (also predictable but somehow clever). Contestants will create their own artist renderings of the Gaga. And the winner’s pic will replace a headshot for Gaga’s column. If Lady Gaga is not a creative dream come true for the music and fashion marketing industry, who is? It’s a fascinating ride she’s taking the world on and V is genius for getting on that train before it comes to a screeching halt…not saying it will…I’m just saying.

Debbie Harry, she of Blondie fame. I’ve always been intrigued by her. She’s this pop goddess, who doesn’t get a ton of respect for talent or a lot of interest in any other area. But Debbie Harry has got to have one of the best faces I’ve ever seen, just immaculate. She epitomizes that cool, downtown, oblivious, ripped t shirt, black eyeliner sexpot. For a time in New York, every girl under 40 wanted to look like her. She held full court at the chicest clubs and galleries and most intriguing, she was the first person to buy a piece of Jean Michel Basquiat’s work. Beyond.
